Who We Are
Samantha Cisilino founded Fermata Music in October 2010 after the music store she was working at closed. Since then, the business has flourished into a space for many talented teachers, students and supportive parents. Samantha’s mission has always been to ensure students of all economic backgrounds have access to music lessons.
We offer piano, guitar, and voice lessons to both children and adults. We believe in a collaborative environment where the students, parents, and teachers are all on the same page regarding each child’s learning goals. We encourage parental involvement by inviting parents to sit in on lessons, as well as maintain contact with them throughout the week to help with any troubles that arise while practicing.
Our goal is to foster each student’s ability to pick up a piece of music and sing or play it with technical skill and ease.
What We Do
At Fermata Music, we teach individuals of all ages; however, certain ages come with certain challenges. For example, adult students may find certain motor movements required to play an instrument difficult to master, while young children might struggle learning complex concepts or musical terms.
That being said, we encourage all students and parents to keep developmental differences in mind when it comes to how quickly it will take someone to learn how to play an instrument.
What Does “Fermata” Mean?
In music, a ‘Fermata’ is a musical symbol that signals you to hold a note longer than it is intended to be held for. A fermata can often be found at the end of a section of a piece, leaving us waiting in suspense for the next section, or it can be found at the end of a piece, leaving the the final note held until the sound fades away. With this in mind, Samantha put the word ‘Fermata’ and ‘Music’ together to encourage her students to hold onto their love of music for as long as they can.
